When are your services?
June through August, worship is at 10:00am Sunday morning. During the Summer,
there is no Sunday School but there are multi-age activities on Wednesday
evenings. During the school year, worship is at 11:00 a.m., with Sunday School
for all ages at 9:45.
What should I wear?
Wear a smile, along with the clothes you feel comfortable in. Dress preferences
here range from traditional to casual.
What about my kids?
We have children’s programs for all ages, birth to 18 according to age/grade.
For a directory of these programs click on the Youth
Connections link. Nursery is available for 0-3 year olds during Sunday School
and Worship. Children up through grade 2 may go out to
“extended session.”
What should I expect?
If you come to visit Sedgefield Presbyterian, you will find it easy to
participate in the worship. Walk in through the double doors at the right side
of the front of the building. Someone will be waiting to offer you a warm
greeting and a service bulletin, and will be glad to try to answer questions you
might have. Music will be played 5-10 minutes before the service, as folks chat
and find seats for themselves. The service begins with a welcome and
announcements from the front of the sanctuary. After a period of quiet, one of
our elementary-age children lights the sanctuary candles, signaling the next
part of the service. A church member invites the congregation to participate in
a call to worship, a hymn, and a prayer of confession. That Lay Reader then
reads one or more passages of scripture. The Director of Christian Education or
a member of the congregation calls the children forward for a short message,
after which they
may leave for “extended session”—a time of learning and play in the Sunday
School classrooms. One of the choirs sings. The pastor reflects on the scripture
reading, speaking to the ways it relates to our lives. We sing another hymn,
speak words of faith, and offer our prayers. An offering is taken, a blessing
given, and, as music begins, we move out of the sanctuary for a time of
fellowship and refreshments in the summer, or, at other times of the year,
simply to visit with our church friends. On the 1st Sunday of each month, we
celebrate the Lord’s Supper (communion). Everyone is welcome to participate.
